CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A driver was charged with driving under the influence after losing control of their vehicle late Tuesday night and crashing into a utility pole, causing a fiber optic cable to fall onto the road.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on June 3, when officers from the Chesterfield County Police Department responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Iron Bridge and Tucker Roads.
According to investigators, the driver ran off the right side of the road and struck the pole, which brought down a fiber optic cable that fell into the roadway. Despite the damage, no significant injuries were reported at the scene.
The driver was taken into custody and charged with DUI.
Authorities closed the affected section of the road in both directions following the crash. Officials expect the road to reopen shortly after midnight on Wednesday, June 4.
The Chesterfield County Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
