PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on Tuesday, February 4, on Interstate 95 in Prince William County. The collision resulted in the death of a 57-year-old man from Chester, Virginia.
According to authorities, the crash occurred around 2:39 p.m. in the southbound express lanes of I-95. A 2020 Lexus RX, which had reportedly stopped on the right shoulder of the express lanes, was struck by a 2022 Ford F-250 that had veered off the road and into the shoulder area.
Upon impact, the Lexus was pushed into a guardrail before being thrown back into the travel lanes, where it came to a stop, facing oncoming traffic. The driver of the Lexus, identified as 57-year-old Vernon S. Lee II of Chester, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A passenger in the Lexus, 25-year-old Shannon S. Lee, also of Chester, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Authorities noted that she was also wearing a seatbelt during the crash.
The driver of the Ford F-250, 43-year-old Jeremy S. Kubela of Fredericksburg, was uninjured in the crash. He has been charged with reckless driving in connection to the incident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
