COVID-19 delays jury trials in Cass County

Fargo, North Dakota – A rising number of COVID-19 cases has slowed the wheels of justice for many residents of Cass County.

In a statement released by the Cass County Courthouse, officials said all planned jury trials have been postponed until February 24. From now until the end of next month, only bench trials and trials determined by a judge will be held.

According to the North Dakota Department of Health, approximately 2600 active cases had been reported in Cass County as of Saturday, Jan. 22, with a 21 percent positive rate.

Jurors who have been summoned to serve within the next month have been notified of the changes, as well as when they will be summoned again, which is expected to be sometime this spring.
