Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation are scheduled to continue rehabilitation work on the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge requiring extended, daytime single-lane closures southbound

Richmond, VA – According to the state officials, the southbound single-lane closure is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Additionally, between 8 a.m. and as late as 8 p.m. on the day of the closure, all bridge openings will be restricted for maritime traffic until the completion of the rehabilitation work for that day and successful testing has been performed.

Marine vessels that do not require a bridge opening can continue to use the navigational channel under the bridge throughout the closure duration.

An inclement weather date for this work has been tentatively scheduled for the same time frame on Sunday, April 14.

This rehabilitation work on the bridge’s wedge drive motors requires 12-hour periods of daylight to perform the work safely and efficiently; however, VDOT attempts to schedule maintenance and non-emergency repair work during travel periods when traffic volumes are lower to reduce impacts on motorists.
