Richmond, VA – VDOT officials released a statement saying that the project widened the I-64 east on-ramps at the J. Clyde Morris Boulevard and Oyster Point Road interchanges from single-lane ramps to two-lane ramps.
These improvements added capacity to the on-ramps to ease congestion and reduce overflow onto local streets during peak travel periods.
Both widened on-ramps can now accommodate two lanes of traffic from each of these local roads, which then merge into a single lane before entering the interstate eastbound.
VDOT awarded the $2.6 million project contract to Basic Construction Company, LLC of Newport News in late 2022.
Originally scheduled for completion in summer 2024, the project is anticipated to finish ahead of schedule.
Remaining project activities include landscaping and seeding along the shoulders, which are scheduled to be completed this spring when weather conditions are more favorable for this work, and installation of new overhead signage for each ramp.
