City honors first responders at 2025 Valor RVA Awards

Richmond, VA – The City of Richmond recognized 20 first responders from across Central Virginia during the 2025 Valor RVA Awards, held last Wednesday to honor individuals whose actions went beyond the call of duty.

The ceremony highlighted first responders from multiple agencies, including Richmond Fire & Emergency Services and the Richmond Police Department, for their courage, professionalism, and commitment to public safety.

Several members of Richmond Fire & Emergency Services received Bronze medals, including Firefighter Michael W. Edmunds, Firefighter Daquane Ford, Captain David Hicks, and Lieutenant Charles K. Shears.

The Richmond Police Department was also represented, with Officer Christopher Carey and Officer John B. Mitchell each receiving Bronze medals for their actions.

City officials expressed appreciation for the honorees’ dedication and service, noting that the Valor RVA Awards are intended to recognize first responders whose efforts have had a meaningful impact on the safety and well-being of the community.

The City of Richmond thanked all first responders for their continued service and sacrifice in protecting residents throughout the region.
