Chesterfield County Woman Arrested After Niece’s Death Linked to Abuse and Neglect

Chesterfield County, VA – A Chesterfield woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her 23-year-old niece, whose malnutrition and neglect allegedly contributed to her passing. The Chesterfield County Police Department reported that the arrest was made after the niece, identified as Secrett T. Curtis, was brought to Chippenham Hospital on Sunday, March 31, with visible signs of severe malnutrition.

Secrett Curtis, who had both cerebral palsy and autism, was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The police said that she had been living in a residence on the 200 block of Philray Road under the care of her aunt, Tina T. Curtis, 49, who was responsible for her wellbeing.

According to police reports, the investigation into Secrett’s death revealed signs of neglect, leading authorities to charge Tina Curtis with abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult, resulting in her niece’s death.

Tina Curtis was arrested on Tuesday, April 1, and is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail with a $25,000 bond. Authorities have stated that the case is still under investigation, and they have encouraged anyone with information to come forward by calling the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251.
