Fargo, North Dakota – An NBC investigation and a political ad-tracking organization both identify Gov. Doug Burgum as the top spender on political advertisements for the 2024 election.
Since entering the contest on June 7, 2023, the company AdImpact claims that Governor Burgum has spent $2.9 million, primarily on TV advertisements.
The PAC supporting Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has reportedly spent just under $2.9 million, while the PAC supporting former President Donald Trump has reportedly spent $2.8 million.
National political observers claim that Gov. Burgum is little known outside of North Dakota in the crowded race. This is a concern for all candidates since, according to NBC News, in order to be eligible for the first Republican National Committee debate, candidates must achieve specific polling levels in a select group of surveys and have 40,000 unique donors.
As of this writing, former President Donald Trump continues to place first in the majority of polls, followed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Sen. Tim Scott, ex-Gov. Nikki Haley, ex-Gov. Asa Hutchinson, ex-Gov. Chris Christie, and ex-Vice President Mike Pence round out the remaining contenders as the majority of GOP voters’ top picks.
Gov. Burgum has registered in a few national surveys, but he will need to continue performing well to be eligible for debates in the future.
