CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — Sherenda Elaine Stevens, 42, of Ashland, was taken into custody Tuesday following a joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.
Stevens, who had outstanding warrants related to court-issued probation violations, was initially confronted by Ashland Police Department officers on May 22. According to authorities, Stevens was seated in a vehicle at a residence in the town when officers attempted to place her under arrest. She reportedly put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated, striking an officer and causing injury before fleeing the scene.
The search for Stevens continued until May 27, when deputies from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Caroline County investigators, located her at a hotel in the Camel Church area of Caroline County. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials announced their presence and warned Stevens that she was surrounded. She initially refused to cooperate and attempted to barricade herself inside the hotel room by stacking furniture against the door.
After several minutes, officers successfully persuaded Stevens to remove the barricade, and she was taken into custody without further incident.
Stevens now faces multiple charges, including felony eluding, felony assault and battery on law enforcement, obstruction of justice, and probation violation.
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Ashland Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
