Winter Storm Warning Issued for Central Virginia Areas

Richmond, VA — A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for several counties and cities in Central Virginia, beginning Sunday, January 5. The warning, which alerts residents to the potential for hazardous winter weather, is expected to impact travel and daily activities across the region.

The winter storm warning will be in effect for varying durations across the affected areas. Buckingham County will experience the warning from noon on Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday, while many other areas, including Chesterfield, Henrico, and Richmond, will be under the warning from 4 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

In addition to these locations, other counties such as Amelia, Hanover, Goochland, Louisa, and Powhatan, as well as several cities, including Colonial Heights and the City of Richmond, are also included in the alert.

Albemarle and Orange Counties will be affected from 6 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has warned of the potential for snow, sleet, and freezing rain throughout these areas, which could cause hazardous road conditions and disruptions to travel. Residents are urged to prepare for possible power outages and to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.

Authorities recommend that people stay informed by monitoring local weather reports and official warnings, while also taking precautions to protect themselves and their property during this winter weather event.
