The Department of Public Works has begun construction on two quick-build bike lane projects to enhance the city’s multimodal transportation network

Richmond, VA – According to the city officials, these initiatives aim to support speed management efforts and provide safer, more sustainable transportation options for roadway users of all ages and abilities.

**Project Highlights:**

– **Southside Enhanced Mobility:**
Holly Springs Avenue, between Broad Rock Road and Hopkins Road, will see the addition of buffered bike lanes and street upgrades. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Winter 2024.

– **Carver Neighborhood Bike Lane Upgrade:**
Leigh Street, from Myers Street to North Allen Avenue, will be repaved with reorganized bike lanes. The upgrades include buffered bike lanes next to sidewalks and on-street parking adjacent to travel lanes. Weather permitting, this project is scheduled for completion by Winter 2025.

While construction is underway, residents may encounter minor disruptions. The DPW encourages patience and urges drivers to slow down and provide extra space when approaching work zones marked by orange cones. These efforts aim to improve safety for both workers and the public during the construction period.
