UPDATE

A witness at the scene of a stabbing at a Fargo restaurant who helped tend to one of the victim’s wounds says the two women stabbed were attacked in their car by a naked woman wielding a large knife.

Deborah Schreiner said she was having lunch with her friend Dottie Weishaar when a person came into the Mexican Village restaurant saying someone had been stabbed in the parking lot. Initial witness reports said the stabbing happened somewhere near the entryway.

Schreiner said she went outside and found an elderly woman with a number of wounds, including an apparently serious wound to her head. A younger woman who had injuries that did not appear to be as serious was helping the older woman.

Schreiner said she asked for napkins and used them to apply pressure to the older woman’s wounds and chatted with her. The older woman thanked her for being so kind and helping and sitting with her.

The older woman said she was sitting in her vehicle with the younger woman when a naked woman who appeared to be covered in blood jumped in the vehicle and started to stab them both with a large knife, Schreiner said.

The two said they then got out of the SUV. The attacker remained and barricaded herself inside.

The two women stabbed are still in Mexican Village and are being tended to by first responders, witnesses said.

ORIGINAL STORY:

FARGO — Police say they are negotiating with an armed woman who has barricaded herself in an SUV after a reported stabbing at a downtown Fargo restaurant.

Emergency dispatchers received a report of an attack at Mexican Village, 814 Main Ave., at around 12:45 p.m., on Thursday, May 13.

A witness told The Forum one or two people may have been stabbed in the front entryway of the restaurant.

The woman apparently suspected of the attack then locked herself in a gold-colored SUV in the parking lot on the east side of the restaurant.

Police appear to have her surrounded and are encouraging her to accept medical treatment.

As police continue negotiations, Main Avenue is closed from University Drive to Eighth Street South. First Avenue South is closed from Eighth to 10th Street South.

Authorities ask drivers to take alternate routes to avoid congestion.
