U.S. Senator from North Dakota asks for criminal justice reforms that emphasize repentance rather than punishment

Bismarck, North Dakota – A criminal justice system that places more emphasis on rehabilitation than punishment, according to Senator Kevin Cramer, needs to be pushed.

The resolution that the North Dakota Republican and Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar proposed last week was approved by the Senate, the North Dakota Republican tweeted yesterday.

It declares April to be Second Chance Month and raises awareness of the needless societal and legal obstacles that prohibit persons with criminal histories from contributing positively to society.

“My resolution with @SenAmyKlobuchar on Second Chance Month passed the Senate last night. It’s time we push for a criminal justice system more focused on redemption than punishment,” wrote Sen. Cramer.
