Vehicles on I-29 north of Fargo may have hydroplaned and ended up in flooded ditches

Fargo, North Dakota – Standing water on the roads creates potentially hazardous driving conditions, thus North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind is urging motorists to reduce their speed due of the dangers posed by these conditions.

Between the early morning hours of Wednesday and Thursday, five automobiles got stuck in flooded ditches along Interstate 29 in the Gardner and Grandin counties. There were no reports of any injuries.

According to Niewind, the combination of rain and snow can make it easier to hydroplane.

Because drivers going fast are more prone to lose control of their vehicles and crash when there is standing water on the highways, this is something that is likely to occur.
