Fargo, North Dakota – Amoxicillin, a widely used antibiotic, is in short supply at many North Dakota pharmacies.
Areas have been experiencing low supply for nearly three weeks because of the shortages, which are part of a national pattern.
Amoxicillin is typically used to treat bacterial infections such as tooth abscesses and chest infections (including pneumonia). To treat stomach ulcers, it can also be used in conjunction with other antibiotics and medications. For the treatment of chest infections and ear infections in children, it is frequently given.
According to FDA representatives, it is unclear how long or how severe the medicine shortages in its powder form will endure.
For viral illnesses like RSV, COVID-19, or the flu, amoxicillin is not prescribed.
