Henrico County, Va. — A fatal pedestrian crash on West Broad Street has shocked the local community, leaving residents mourning the loss of 60-year-old Thomas Wayne Bodden of Henrico County. The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Monday, April 28, at approximately 8:35 p.m., when Henrico County police were called to the intersection of West Broad Street and Pemberton Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Bodden with severe injuries, lying in the road. A preliminary investigation revealed that Bodden had been crossing West Broad Street when he was struck by an SUV. The force of the impact caused Bodden to fall into the other lane, where he was subsequently hit by another vehicle. Tragically, he died at the scene.
Authorities believe that a combination of factors contributed to the crash, including the victim’s dark clothing and the potential involvement of alcohol. While details about Bodden’s state at the time of the incident remain under investigation, these factors are believed to have played a role in the fatal collision.
Local residents have expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, with many reflecting on the impact of the loss. “All I can think about is their family… they’re not coming home,” said Mitchell Price, a Henrico County resident. “It’s a bad way to start the week. God bless them.”
Junie Clayton, another local resident, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the human toll of the accident. “I pray for his family — again, it’s very unfortunate,” Clayton said. “I have kids, I have grandkids now… I always think about it being one of my family members.”
This incident comes amid growing concerns about traffic safety in the area. In recent months, there have been multiple reports of crashes at the same intersection. According to data from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ Traffic Records Electronic Data System (TREDS), a car crash in February 2025 at the same intersection left three people injured. Two additional crashes were reported in 2024, though no injuries were reported in those incidents.
As Henrico County police continue to investigate the crash, authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crash Team Investigator T. Holmes at 804-501-5000. The community remains on edge as the investigation unfolds, hoping for answers and looking for ways to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of traffic safety and vigilance, especially in areas with a history of accidents.
