Severe Thunderstorms Impact Central Virginia, Prompt Warnings for Several Counties

RICHMOND, Va. — Severe thunderstorms hit parts of Central Virginia late Monday night, prompting multiple warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) for several counties. The storm system, which swept through the region on March 31, brought high winds and the potential for hail, causing significant damage in some areas.

As of 9 p.m. Monday, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Middlesex, Northumberland, and Lancaster counties, set to remain in effect until 11 p.m. The storm is expected to bring winds of up to 60 mph and hail as large as 0.75 inches, according to the NWS.

The storm’s effects have already been felt in other parts of Central Virginia. Caroline, Essex, and Greensville counties have reported damage, including downed trees and power lines, as high winds from the storm system moved through the area earlier in the evening.

Residents in the affected counties are urged to take immediate precautions. The NWS advises people to seek shelter indoors, stay away from windows, and prepare for the possibility of power outages. Emergency crews are on standby as they monitor the storm’s progression through the region.
