Severe Weather Leaves Over 110,000 Virginians Without Power, Central Virginia Hit Hard

RICHMOND, Va. — A powerful storm system that swept through Virginia has left over 110,000 residents without power, with thousands in Central Virginia feeling the brunt of the outage. Dominion Energy, which serves more than 2.7 million customers across the state, reported widespread disruptions to electrical service following the severe weather.

The hardest-hit areas in Central Virginia include Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, New Kent, Goochland, and Powhatan. The outage numbers show the extent of the damage:

  • Richmond: 6,993 customers without power
  • Henrico: 5,307 customers impacted
  • Hanover: 1,975 customers affected
  • Chesterfield: 2,382 homes and businesses without electricity
  • New Kent: 2,485 customers without power
  • Goochland: 736 affected
  • Powhatan: 713 customers in the dark

The storm’s intensity and the rapid damage to infrastructure have left Dominion Energy crews working around the clock to restore power to affected areas. As of now, there is no confirmed timeline for full restoration, but officials have assured that efforts are ongoing to get residents back online as quickly as possible.

Residents in the affected areas are being urged to exercise caution, especially with the possibility of downed power lines and trees blocking roads. Local authorities are also monitoring the situation closely, providing updates as they become available.

While some residents have already begun to see service restored, others may face extended outages. Dominion Energy continues to advise customers to report downed power lines and power outages via their official channels to help expedite repairs.

As the storm moves on, Virginians are left to deal with the aftermath of severe weather, but hope remains that power will soon be fully restored across the region.
