RICHMOND, Va. — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot while driving along Interstate 64 early Sunday morning, Virginia State Police confirmed.
Shortly after 1:45 a.m. on June 1, state police responded to reports of a shooting on eastbound I-64 just before Exit 187 in the City of Richmond. Upon arrival, officers found a 2016 Nissan Maxima had exited onto the ramp for I-95 and come to a stop on the shoulder of the highway.
The driver, identified as Naseem Kariem King, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. Two passengers were also in the vehicle but were unharmed.
In response to the incident, all eastbound lanes of I-64 were temporarily diverted at Staples Mill Road. By 10:51 a.m., authorities reopened all lanes and cleared the scene.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is actively investigating the shooting. No further details about the circumstances or suspects have been released at this time.
