RICHMOND, Va. — A 15-year-old girl has died after being shot Wednesday afternoon in Richmond’s Northside. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on April 2, when the Richmond Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of North 1st Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the young girl outside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have detained an individual who was with the victim at the time of the shooting. According to the Richmond Police Department, the detained person is known to the victim. However, police have not confirmed whether that individual is considered a suspect or if they will face any charges at this time.
At this stage, investigators are not seeking other individuals in connection to the shooting. Richmond Police spokespersons have stated that the investigation is ongoing, but further details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting have not been disclosed.
